A quick story about the campsite!

Since 1914, the grounds that are apart of Red Squirrel Campsite have been used for camping. For well over a century campers have been coming to visit the highlands to experience nature at its finest!
Red Squirrel campsite was founded by Hugh MacColl and has been thriving ever since.

There is no WiFi in the forest, but I promise that you’ll find a better connection.

Our Philosophy is that we spend far too much time with technology and working and as a result, we have lost something core to being a human. We want to give you the opportunity to leave that all behind and return to our natural state, back with mother nature.

Happy Campers

Escape the city and return back to nature just as many of our campers have!

Great Campsite!

What a location - alongside a stream and surrounded by mountains! There's plenty of space to pick a spot - alongside the stream, amidst tree cover and there are plentiful prepared fire-circles, with wood available for a campfire. The facilities are simple - loo's, hot showers, washing up station, visitor info - but plenty for a good camp. The manager is friendly and helpful. Good pub food about a mile down the road at the Clacaigh Inn.

We love this campsite!

Outstanding scenery! Great staff, clean toilets and low prices. There's a shallow river that runs by the campsite, which was an absolute pleasure to wake up to. Plus there's a nearby co-op for any new campers who forget anything.

Fantastic campsite with great amenities for the tent or motor home camper. The settings are stunning and the prices reasonable. Fires permitted on old fire scars. Hammock friendly.

Peace and tranquillity and beautiful scenery. Campfires allowed in the designated stone pits and good wash and toilet facilities. Wildlife comes to you too.

Wild Camping!

Wild camping feel with the comfort of showers and toilets. Beautiful location and the scenery is amazing. Fires are permitted and if you are brave enough, you can swim in the river. Reasonably priced too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question? We've got answers. If you have some other questions, contact us using email.

Do you have electric hook ups?

We currently don't have electric hook-ups, we are looking to implement these but it is not available currently.

Where can we book?

We have a lot of land, and as a result, if your group is less than 20 people, you can simply turn up. During the summer we can get busy, so any announcements about availability will be posted on Facebook.

Can we pay with card?

We do not accept any sort of electric payment methods at this time. If there is a high enough demand for it we will consider it a possibility but as for now we do not.

Can we make our own fires?

Campfires are what camping is all about! We have provided gullies for you to make fires in, this is in order to leave the campsite as you found it, as well as respecting future campers.

Do you allow parties?

Yes! We want you to have a great time. We only ask that you call or email in advance as well as respect the rules of the campsite as to not to disturb other campers.
